KATHMANDU, Oct 11: The government declared 30 more local levels as the disaster crisis zones, taking the total number to 71 from 20 districts.

A cabinet meeting held on Monday took a decision to this effect, keeping in view of the demand made by various stakeholders, according to Dr Dijan Bhattarai, spokesperson at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
The disaster crisis zone has been in effect since September 27 for three months. With this, the relief distribution, rehabilitation and reconstruction works are expected to be channelized in a coordinated manner. The list of the local levels was published in the gazette.
The NDRRMA further said that the country recorded the deaths of 146 persons so far, with 18 others still missing in the recent floods and landslides. Similarly, the floods and landslides caused by the nonstop rainfall that occurred on September 27-28 caused loss of properties worth around Rs 50 billion.
