Gold smuggling case: Inquiry commission records Gore’s statements

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: The Inquiry Commission formed to investigate gold smuggling has taken the statement of Chudamani Upreti aka Gore, who is in the Central Jail. The commission took his statement on gold smuggling and related issues.

He was arrested after he was found to be involved in smuggling gold brought from Dubai. He is currently detained in Golghar of the Central Jail. The gold smuggled from Dubai was to be transported to Baneshwar in Kathmandu. When the missing 33 kg of gold was not found, the gang of Gore allegedly killed Sanam Shakya saying that Shakya had robbed the gold on the way. Dilli Raj Acharya, chairman of the Inquiry Commission, said that Gore’s statement was taken in the jail.


The Commission has confirmed that Gore’s gang was responsible for smuggling the gold that arrived at the Tribhuvan International Airport on January 23, 2018. However, the whereabouts of the gold remains unknown. The Inquiry Commission is currently taking the statements of individuals involved in past cases, gathering crucial information. Additionally, the commission has reviewed previous investigation files. So far, around 300 individuals have been interrogated by the comission.
