KATHMANDU, Dec 12: Acting President of the Nepali Congress (NC), Purna Bahadur Khadka, has said that the high-level judicial inquiry commission formed to investigate the incidents related to the Gen Z movement on September 8 and 9 must conduct its work impartially, without bias or prejudice.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the 11th General Convention of the CPN-UML at Sallaghari Open Ground in Bhaktapur on Saturday, Khadka stressed that the commission constituted by the interim government must remain vigilant and act with a sense of responsibility.

“The high-level judicial inquiry commission formed to establish the truth of both incidents and bring those responsible within the ambit of legal action must prepare an impartial report, free from inducement, bias, pressure and influence,” Khadka said.
He also remarked that the territorial restrictions imposed by the government on former prime minister KP Sharma Oli and former home minister Ramesh Lekhak have raised serious questions. “Decisions such as imposing territorial restrictions on leaders have generated multiple concerns,” Khadka said, adding that the commission must therefore remain alert and discharge its duties with due caution.
Khadka further stated that incidents had occurred in which security personnel entrusted with safeguarding citizens’ lives and property were humiliated and had their weapons looted. He added that private property belonging to citizens was vandalised, looted and set ablaze, leading to the total destruction of their belongings.
“Ensuring justice for the victims falls within the primary responsibility of a state governed by the rule of law. This is the duty of the government,” Khadka said, adding that it is also the supreme responsibility of the commissions that have been formed.
Recalling past experience, Acting President Khadka said that whenever dark clouds of authoritarianism or instability have loomed over democracy, the NC, the CPN-UML and other democratic parties have stood together to firmly resist such challenges.
