The Special Court had issued a notice to Lama to appear before the court by Sunday. [break]
“If he had appeared before the court today (Sunday), there would be hearing on whether or not Lama should be sent into judicial custody,” Special Court Registrar Dhir Bahadur Chand told Republica.
Chand stated that the court can proceed with the case now. “The court may summon him , if necessary,” he added.
Gangsters Parshuram Basnet and Chakre Milan, who are also charged with amassing illegal properties through illegal sources, had appeared before the court as per the notice issued by the Special Court.
Basnet was released on bail while Milan is in the central jail for his involvement in drug smuggling and other charges.
The Department of Money Laundering Investigation (DoMLI) on May 19 had filed cases against Lama, Basnet, Milan, Abhishek Giri and Dipak Manange.
They have been accused of amassing properties through extortions, illegal contracts and banking transactions, among other illegal activities.
Lama has been accused of illegally amassing Rs 270 million, Manange Rs 147.3 million, Basnet Rs 116.1 million, Milan 70.7 million and Giri Rs 29.4 million from unknown sources.
