KATHMANDU, Aug 9: The Special Court has slapped a one-year jail term on former lawmaker and gangster Ganesh Lama on the charge of money laundering.


Issuing a verdict on Thursday, a bench of judges Babu Ram Regmi, Dwarika Man Joshi and Ratna Bahadur Bagchand, ordered Lama to furnish a fine of Rs 14.05 million and handed him a one year jail term along with a confiscation of his property equivalent to the fine.

Money laundering investigation department had filed a charge-sheet against five people including Lama in 2013, among which four of them have been acquitted by the court.


Lama is currently serving a term in Dillibazar-based jail in the arm and ammunition case.
