KATHMANDU, JULY 13: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has satirized the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Maha Prasad Adhikari, questioning if he is a member of the Finance Planning Department of the CPN-UML.
Speaking during the zero hour of parliament on Wednesday, Thapa said, "I apologize if my remarks are considered to be made against M Adhikari of the UML’s Planning Department.”

CPN-UML's intraparty directive also includes M Adhikari from Khotang in the party’s finance department. He is suspected to be the Governor of NRB, Maha Prasad Adhikari. Before making the satire, Thapa suggested addressing challenges such as the skyrocketing prices, foreign exchange reserves, a declining stock market, and the economy under the control of some business houses.
Similarly, other lawmakers have also demanded immediate action against NRB Governor Adhikari on the suspicion of him being a member of the finance planning department of the UML. Hinting at UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Maoist Center lawmaker Gajendra Bahadur Mahat said, “I had my doubts from the beginning. As it turns out to be, there is a relation similar to that of a father and a son between Bardali ba [Oli] and him [NRB Governor]; sitting on the balcony of his house, one is saying that Nepal is being made another Sri Lanka while the other is actually making the country like Sri Lanka.”
Mahat said, “Hanuman had set the entire Sri Lanka on fire in the Treta yuga (era). He is also setting Nepal on fire. I demand the government keep him tied up.”
Similarly, Maoist Center lawmaker Rekha Sharma demanded that the NRB Governor be investigated. Stating that this was against the NRB Act, she said, "I demand an investigation against the Governor of NRB."
