KATHMANDU, July 7: Ashok Yadav, a leader of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) led by Ashok Rai, has stirred controversy by stating that Madhesh will eventually secede from Nepal.
In a video message made public after an arrest warrant was issued against him, the former lawmaker declared, “Madhesh will part ways with Nepal—whether I am there or not.”

Opening his video with the phrase “Jai Bihar, Jai Nepal, Jai Bharat,” Yadav also appeared to appeal to Indian law enforcement officials to prevent his arrest, claiming he is fighting a battle for justice between India and Nepal.
Referring to himself as a defender of cultural and religious values such as Shriram and Janaki, Yadav stated that he was fighting to protect these legacies. He raised concerns about the citizenship rights of Indian women married to Nepali citizens, claiming that their children are denied citizenship in Nepal. Yadav urged officials in Bihar, including the Sitamarhi Superintendent of Police, not to act based on Nepal Police’s request.
Yadav also accused Nepal’s ruling class of harboring racial bias, claiming Madheshis are treated as second-class citizens. According to him, these experiences have repeatedly led him to believe that Madhesh's separation is necessary.
Yadav, who went into hiding after allegedly threatening then-Sarlahi SP Yogendra Khadka over the phone, claimed in the video that he is not afraid to die. He further alleged that police officials in Sarlahi, including the SP and DSP, engaged in acts of intimidation.
