KATHMANDU, July 6— In a horrifying crime in Bhojpur district, a man murdered four members of his own family, including his in-laws, wife, and brother-in-law.
Rajendra Rai, a resident of Bhojpur Municipality-2, Helauncha, killed his father-in-law, mother-in-law, wife, and brother-in-law using a sharp weapon in Ramprasad Rai Rural Municipality-2, Dhodlekhani.
According to Inspector Deepak Shrestha of the Bhojpur District Police Office, Rajendra himself called the police control room at around 1:15 AM on Saturday night and confessed, saying, “I was attacked with a knife, so I killed people. Please come and arrest me.”
Following the call, a police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar Khawas from the temporary police post in Okhre and another team under a sergeant from the Bhojpur District Police Office were dispatched to the scene.
When police reached the house in Dhodlekhani, they found the bodies of Rajendra's father-in-law, 68-year-old Bel Bahadur Giri, mother-in-law Manju Giri, and his wife and brother-in-law. Police have not disclosed the names of his wife and brother-in-law as they were minors—his wife was 16 years old, and her younger brother was just 10.
Rajendra Rai was later found injured in Harbubhanjyang, located in Ward No. 1 of the same rural municipality, approximately 4 to 5 kilometers from the crime scene. He had sustained injuries to his abdomen from a sharp weapon and is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
In his initial statement to police, Rajendra claimed he committed the murders after being stabbed by his mother-in-law at around 11 PM on Saturday. It has also been revealed that Rajendra Rai had married his wife following love affairs about a year ago.
