KATHMANDU, Sept 1: Four inmates have died at the Sundhara-based Central Jail. According to Devarsi Sapkota, information officer at the Department of Prison Management, of the four deceased, one has tested positive for COVID-19, while the results of the three others are awaited.

The 40-year-old male inmate, who was brought to the Central Jail for treatment, tested positive for COVID-19 after his death. “The inmate was a tuberculosis patient,” said Sapkota.


According to the Central Jail, two inmates died at Bir Hospital and one at Mega Hospital.


A source said that a few more inmates at the jail are ill.
