KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Former Chief Justice Govinda Bahadur Shrestha passed away at his residence in Sunakothi, Lalitpur today. He was 77.
The former Chief Justice had been receiving medical treatment for brain tumor. He had undergone surgery at Medanta Hospital in India sometime back.
He is seen as a justice who worked with the motive of making justice accessible. He served as the Chief Justice for nine months 13 years back.
His last rites were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat today itself. He is survived by a son and three daughters.
Chief Justice Sushila Karki had reached Aryaghat to pay last respects to the late Shrestha.
Also present at the Aryaghat to pay tributes to Shrestha were former Chief Justices, the justices of the High Courts, Special Courts and the District Courts.
Meanwhile, the full meeting of the Supreme Court chaired by Chief Justice Karki has decided to give a one-day holiday tomorrow to the Supreme Court and to all other courts under it to mourn the former Chief Justice Shrestha's demise. RSS
