KATHMANDU, Oct 26: The existing Ministry of Forests and Environment has been renamed as the Ministry of Forests, Environment, and Climate Change.
The decision was made during a meeting of the National Council for Environmental Protection and Climate Change Management held on Friday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The decision has been made to rename the ministry as the Ministry of Forests, Environment, and Climate Change, but it will be formalized by the Cabinet meeting, said Dr Bimal Regmi, an expert member of the council.
Dr Regmi stated that this decision was made to address the increasing challenges of climate change, showing Nepal's sensitivity toward climate issues. The meeting also approved the Climate Finance Task Force’s recommendation report to strengthen the mobilization of climate finance.
In the meeting, Prime Minister Oli instructed that Nepal's stance be raised strongly at the World Climate Conference (COP-29) to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Prime Minister emphasized that the Ministry of Forests should not be made anti-development.
Prime Minister Oli stated that the Ministry of Forests should support the advancement of development projects.
