KATHMANDU, March 27: For the first time in Nepal Police, three female police officers have reached the special category.
On Monday, the promotion committee recommended DIG Meera Chaudhary for promotion to AIG.
Earlier, as the director of the police hospital, Dr Asha Singh and Kiran Bajracharya were appointed AIGs last week.
This is the first time in the history of Nepal Police that three women AIGs are working together.
Dr Singh became AIG three and a half years ago. On December 18, 2016, the head of the hospital Dr Singh became AIG after Durga Thapa retired.
On the other hand, Pooja Singh is the first female AIG. The government decided to promote her to AIG last May.

However, she did not get to work as an AIG for even one year. She retired in February due to the age limit.
With Singh's retirement, 5 AIG positions became vacant in Nepal Police. Among the five vacancies, Kiran Bajracharya was also promoted.
She also became a contender for police leadership from her batch. But when the government appointed Basant Bahadur Kunwar, who was number one, as the IGP, her chances of reaching the leadership for the first time were dashed.
But since the 30-year age limit removal process has started, there will be a possibility of becoming IGP again from among them. As it is now, Bajracharya and Meera Chaudhary will remain in police service for about 2 years. They entered the service together as police inspectors on March 19,1995.
Durga and Kiran retired as DIGs
Durga Singh and Kiran Rana, who entered the police service along with Kiran Bajracharya and Meera Chaudhary, have been stopped as DIG.
On March 19, 1995, four women inspectors joined the police service together. They, who were lagging behind Kiran and Meera in promotion, also insisted on becoming AIG. But when the government promoted AIG according to priority, they were left out.
On July 1, people were simultaneously promoted to DIG. Among them, DIGs up to number 10 have become AIGs. Basant Bahadur Kunwar, who is number one in this batch, has become the IGP.
Deepak Thapa and Tek Bahadur Tamang who are AIGs are from the latest batch than Kiran Rana and Durga Singh. Rana and Singh were left in AIG while they started from SSP.
Eighteen of this batch are still SSPs. Now the vacant DIG will be promoted from among them. The remaining SSPs are all male. Earlier, 17 DIGs were followed by four women.
