KATHMANDU, July 9: The president of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry will now be elected through direct elections. In the previous statute, there was a provision that the senior vice president of the FNCCI would automatically become the president.
After the working committee of the umbrella organization of business entrepreneurs across the country unanimously amended the law on Monday, the president of the FNCCI will be elected through direct elections.
Chandra Prasad Dhakal, the president of the FNCCI, said that the statute of the FNCCI was unanimously passed by the working committee meeting and from now on, the president of the FNCCI will be selected through elections.
Chandra Dhakal elected Senior Vice President of FNCCI
President Dhakal mentioned that previously, several working groups and committees had been established to amend the statute. However, due to their inability to reach a consensus, the provision remained wherein the senior vice president would eventually assume the presidency.
Dhakal had promised to directly elect the president by amending the constitution during the election. Dhakal said that this provision will allow competent people to directly contest for the presidency.
The transition will take effect after the current Senior Vice President Anjan Shrestha completes his second term and automatically assumes the presidency. The amended constitution also introduces provisions for two senior vice presidents, with one current and another to be appointed.
It is said that the revised statute will be passed by the special general assembly of the FNCCI by mid-December.
