KATHMANDU July 26: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has condemned what it calls unlawful activities of trade unions in different commercial institutions.

According to a statement that the umbrella body for private institutions of Nepal issued on Thursday, employees associated with different trade union organizations in different institutions have started shutting down businesses after the commercial entities they worked in started implementing the government´s minimum wage policy. "The increment is only in the minimum wage and not in aggregate salary of the employees," FNCCI said. "This agreement was made among the government, employers and employees."

The unions’ demand of increase in salaries in aggregate is against the principle of collective bargaining, it said. "The employees should sit for talks rather than shut down the business of firms."
