KATHMANDU, March 17: The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the habeas corpus petition on behalf of former Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey seeking relief from what he insists to be an unlawful detention. He was jailed for further investigation in the fake Bhutanese refugee case.
A division bench of justices Kumar Chudal and Mahesh Sharma Paudel on Monday dismissed the petition filed by Pandey's wife, Manju Pandey.

Police had arrested Pandey on May 3 on the charge of being involved in illegally sending Nepalis as Bhutanese refugees to the USA. On June 15, 2024, the Kathmandu District Court ordered him, along with 16 others, to be remanded in custody for further investigation.
Pandey's wife filed the habeas corpus petition on February 23, 2025 at the SC, naming the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Kathmandu District Court, the Office of the Attorney General, and the District Government Attorney Office, Kathmandu as defendants.
He is accused of colluding with a gang that helped to proceed with the documentation of Nepalis as Bhutanese refugees when he was the secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
