Flood victims picket DAO, Banke

NEPALGUNJ, July 31: Demanding to manage a safe settlement, Rapti flood victims of the district picketed District Administration Office (DAO), Banke on Sunday.



Flood victims of Holiya, Bethani, Fattepur, Bankatti, Gangapur and Matehiya protested against the government picketing DAO, Banke. Flood victims under the command of Laskhmanpur Dam Victim Struggle Committee have demanded with the local administration also to construct embankment to protect their land and reconstruction of the road damaged by the flood.



“If the government thinks we are Nepali citizens, then our problems should be addressed,” said Hem Kumar Yadav of Gangapur. He vented his ire saying that no leaders have reached their places to listen to their grievances.



After receiving the memorandum from the flood victims, Chief District Officer Rabilal Pant said that the work for collecting details about the damage caused by the flood has already started.   



“After the work completes, arrangements will be made to shift them to a safe location,” he said.



After receiving assurance from the location administartion, flood victims said that they will stage another protest if their demands are no addressed within a week.
