The neglected flood victims have been seeking assistance for the last three months.
After their capital-based protests yielded no result, the victims have taken to the streets in the district headquarters Khalanga. [break]
After being barred from entering the DAO premises, the agitators chanted slogans against the government and staged a sit-in program at the main gate of the office.
The agitation also affected works at the District Election Office and the District Treasury Controller Office.
The agitators also shut down suspension bridge linking Nepal and India for two hours. The struggle committee formed by the flood victims informed that the agitation would continue until their demands are met.
The flood victims had padlocked the District Election Office and the District Treasury Controller Office on Tuesday too.
Eight agitators were injured when the police intervened.
The Mahakali River flood on June 17 had swept way 48 concrete houses including private houses and government offices in Khalanga while two dozen more houses are still at high risk of flooding.
The properties worth 1.5 billion rupees were destroyed in the flood. According loss assessment report, more then 300 families were directly affected by the deluge, which also eroded away huge swath of lands in the district.
