UDAYAPUR, Dec 14: Police arrested five people from two different locations in Udayapur in a single day on Saturday, recovering brown sugar and other narcotics.
According to the District Police Office, Udayapur, three people were arrested at around 5:15 PM from Lalpatta in Triyuga Municipality–6, while two others were detained later the same night from Rampur in Belaka Municipality–9. The arrests were made during routine vehicle checks conducted by police teams deployed at different points.
At Lalpatta, a border point between Udayapur and Saptari, a team from the Lalpatta Police Post stopped two motorcycles and recovered 14.13 grams of a substance suspected to be brown sugar that was being smuggled towards Gaighat. Police arrested 39-year-old Sashikant Chaudhary of Triyuga Municipality–13, who was riding a motorcycle (Ba 41 Pa 5508) from Kadmaha in Saptari to Gaighat, with 3.24 grams of brown sugar.
Nine arrested with ‘brown sugar’
Similarly, 37-year-old Dabendra Magar of Bagaha, Triyuga Municipality–4, was arrested with 10.89 grams of brown sugar while riding another motorcycle (Province 1–02–058 Pa 7075). Police also detained 35-year-old Prem Chaudhary of Gairun, Triyuga Municipality–9, who was riding pillion on the same motorcycle. Both motorcycles were seized, and all three suspects were taken into custody at the District Police Office, Udayapur, for further investigation.
In a separate incident the same night at around 11:30 pm, a team from the Area Police Office, Rampur Thoksila, arrested two more individuals during a vehicle check at Rampur Bazaar in Belaka Municipality–9. Police recovered 80 milligrams of brown sugar from a motorcycle (Sa 3 Pa 9214) heading towards Rampur from Basaha.
The rider, 26-year-old Sanjiv Rai of Bhorleni, Chaudandigadhi Municipality–4, was taken into custody. Police also arrested 19-year-old Prabesh Rai of the same area, who was riding pillion. Additional narcotics were recovered from Prabesh Rai, including four Spaspen tablets and three Tramadol tablets. Police also seized Rs 10,715 in cash from their possession.
Both suspects, along with the motorcycle, have been kept in custody at the Area Police Office, Rampur Thoksila, while further investigation and legal proceedings are underway, police said.
