KATHMANDU, Aug 11: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested one more person on the charge of obtaining a fake academic certificate to become a doctor.
Police apprehended Poonam Thapa from Kathmandu on Friday, according to CIB Spokesperson Superintendent of Police (SP) Nabaraj Adhikari.
The CIB has launched a special operation against those preparing fake academic certificates. With this, the number of accused in the scam has reached eight so far including a lawmaker of ruling Nepali Congress (NC) Sunil Sharma.

In a separate case, police nabbed a woman on the charge of fraud. The arrested has been identified as Kamala Devi Shrestha, 55, residing at Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-9 in Sunsari district. She was arrested on charge of duping people through social networking sites.
A team of police deployed by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office held Shrestha on the charge of fraud. Shrestha had asked the victim to send Rs 92,000 to pay as a customer fee for the gifts to be sent to Nepal from the UK.
The woman, according to the complaint filed by the victim, had claimed to be a citizen of the UK while communicating with the victim through a social networking site.
According to the Spokesperson at Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office SP Ravindra Regmi, the accused has been detained for further investigation.
