Expired medicine used in Janakpur hospital

JANAKPUR, Feb 4: Tension ran high in Janakpur Zonal Hospital after expired medicines were found to have been used in the Maternity Department. Ninety-five packets of medicines distributed by the government for free to women undergoing Caesarian was found to have crossed the expiry date.



The Matrika Yadav-led Maoist party made the medicine public on Wednesday during a press conference. [break]



Sanjay Jha, sub-storekeeper of the hospital, claimed that the expired medicine must have been replaced while they were being kept in the surgical ward. He said that the medicine was supplied by Prakash Medical based in Jaleshwar.



Hospital chief Dr Gaurang Mishra said the hospital is investigating into the incident. He added that action would be taken against the guilty.



Nanda Kishore Yadav, who is the Jaleshwar coordinator of Matrika Yadav-led Maoist party, said the party would assist in the investigation if necessary.
