KATHMANDU, May 8: The first team of climbers successfully reached atop Mt Everest on Saturday, marking the first ascent of the spring climbing season 2022.
The rope fixing team led by world record holder climber Kami Rita Sherpa successfully reached the top of the world at 18:55 on Saturday along with 10 other Sherpas from Seven Summit Treks under the management of Expedition Operators of Nepal (EOA).

With the successful ascent, Kami Rita has set a new record of 26 summits to Mt Everest so far. The first climbers to summit Mt Everest along with Kami Rita this season include Sona Sherpa, Ngima Tashi Sherpa, Phurba Tsering Sherpa, Tenjing Gyaljen Sherpa, Lakpa Tenji Sherpa, Phurba Kusang Sherpa, Mingma Dandhu SHerpa, Pastenji Sherpa, Tareman Tamang and Phurba Chhotar.
The Department of Tourism (DoT) has issued 918 climbing permits to nationals from 73 countries for this season. Of them, 316 permits have been issued to scale Mt Everest alone. The DoT has collected over Rs 395 million in royalties from issuing permits to the world’s highest mountain this spring climbing season.
