KATHMANDU, March 7: Newly-appointed Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Sumana Shrestha, has decided to take initiatives for amendments to the laws in order to appoint experts as the chancellors and vice-chancellors of all 11 universities in the country.
Assuming her office at Singha Durbar on Wednesday evening, Minister Shrestha directed the authorities to ensure that Nepali youths get quality education within the country and to begin preliminary works to amend the existing laws to stop politicization of the universities.

On the occasion, she shared that a policy-level decision will be taken after carrying out a survey on why the Nepali youths are going abroad for higher education, and that she would set her priorities regarding improving the quality of education and other issues after holding discussions with the officials of the education ministry.
The education minister stressed that she would facilitate the implementation of the Education Committee’s decision to take the School Education Bill 2080, which is under consideration in the Parliamentary Committee, to the provinces for discussion.
On the occasion, secretaries of the ministry, Suresh Adhikari and Pramila Devi Acharya, welcomed her.
A lawmaker from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Minister Shrestha has the experience of working as a management consultant, entrepreneur and campaigner. She had led a movement by mobilizing communities at the local level for the reconstruction of Kasthamandap and conservation of Ranipokhari.
She holds a master’s degree in business administration from MIT Sloan School of Management, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.
