KATHMANDU, April 25: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Poudel has urged the Ministry of Finance to increase the budget in the education sector.
At a discussion program organized on Sunday, Minister Poudel urged the Ministry of Finance to be generous towards budget allocation in the education sector.
What is missing in budget for agriculture?
Minister Poudel also shared that preparations are underway to operate medical colleges in all seven provinces and demanded an adequate budget for the same.
According to him, new programs have been proposed for the establishment of IT and science labs in all public schools, development of physical infrastructures in 5,000 schools, facilitation for teaching-learning activities for students and teachers, ensuring additional quota of teachers of English, mathematics and science subjects and expand mid-day snacks to students up to Grade 8, among others.
The Minister also demanded an additional budget for building UNESCO villages, providing scholarships for medical students and conducting feasibility studies to set up a multidisciplinary research center, among others.
In response, Minister for Finance Janardan Sharma pledged to consider Minister Poudel's request and indicated the possibility of an increase in the budget for the education sector in the upcoming fiscal year. He also suggested Minister Poudel to mull new plans and programmes in the areas of digital library, IT colleges, and schools, medical universities and IT universities among others.
