Educated Illiterate

There are different kinds of people around us. Some are hard to deal with and some are easygoing. It depends on each individual’s nature, character, upbringing and thought process. A lot of it is the tolerance power that a person has. This article goes out to the majority of people that we interact with everyday (we can be the subject ourselves!).

These are acts that are carried out unintentionally and we do not take note of it unless someone point it out for us. Just think of all the times you have come across with the educated illiterates. This term is specifically denotes the people who have had proper schooling and attained prestigious degree but aren’t aware of the simple rules and practices of life.

Educated people are those who have learnt the way of the world thanks to their schooling, and achieved proficiency in general. They have used their classroom knowledge and achieved some worldly success over time. But the problem occurs when the very educated people mess with the rules and create havoc. This is one part of it. The other part is when the proficient ones act ignorant.

This could be related to professionals honking continuously while they are stuck in a traffic jam or it could be people haphazardly throwing waste from their car’s window. There are individuals who do not realize it is disgusting to spit on the streets, and some who just don’t understand a queue’s mechanism. Massively using plastic bags and disposing them everywhere is another example of how one is lazy to carry a shopping. There are people who recklessly waste food at parties and the same ones shamelessly bargain to save meager amount of money. There is no end to the list of shameful things that educated illiterates constantly do, and these could be anyone from professionals to high school students.

Long story short, what I am trying to say is, instead of arguing who is responsible for the system to work, one should learn to practice what they preach. If each one of us maintained the discipline to keep in check little things like littering and followed basic rules of the system, this would be a much better place to live in. For once, let’s stop being in a constant rush and take time to make things right. The race of our lives can be completed in a slow, thoughtful pace, too.
