EC makes public election calendar for by-polls

KATHMANDU, Oct 19: November 7 has been set as the candidacy nomination day for parliamentary and provincial by-elections slated for November 30, the Election Commission (EC) said Friday.

KATHMANDU, Oct 19: November 7 has been set as the candidacy nomination day for parliamentary and provincial by-elections slated for November 30, the Election Commission (EC) said Friday.


The EC is holding the by-elections to elect a member of the federal parliament from Kaski whereas it is electing three provincial assembly members from Bhaktapur, Baglung and Dang. 


Likewise, 48 vacant local body positions will also be filled through the by-elections. As per the election calendar, candidates willing to contest for vacant positions of local bodies will have to file their candidacies on November 13.

After verifying the applications, the election body will publish a final list of candidates of federal and provincial parliaments on November 10.


In case of local bodies, the election body will publicize the final names list of candidates on November 17. 


Parties and independent candidates of federal, provincial and local elections will get election symbols on November 27. 


A total of 52 positions in central, provincial and local bodies are lying vacant after the people’s representatives died in accidents or due to diseases since they were elected in 2017. 


The election body is holding by-election in November last to fill the void.
