KATHMANDU, Sept 24: The government is preparing to issue a new e-pass using advanced technology, as the online pass with QR codes issued for entering Singha Durbar has become cumbersome.

In a meeting of secretaries chaired by Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal on Monday, it was decided that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), in coordination with the Ministry of Urban Development and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, will implement the e-pass system for entering Singha Durbar within a month.

According to sources, this decision was made due to the lengthy process required to enter Singha Durbar through the current online system.

The secretary-level meeting held on June 20 decided that the MoHA would coordinate the implementation of the e-gate pass system by canceling all temporary passes issued by the ministry.

The e-gate pass system is an online system for obtaining gate passes to enter Singha Durbar. According to this system, the current pass for Singha Durbar, which can be requested by phone, has been available online starting from Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August).

In order for the general public to enter Singha Durbar, the country’s main administrative center, relevant authorities must grant permission for a gate pass. Currently, the MoHA has arranged for gate passes with QR codes.

A system has been established where users can visit the website 'singhadurbarpass.gov.np' to create an account and request a pass online using their user ID and password.

Currently, to obtain a gate pass, users must fill in basic details. After entering the name of the visiting entity, date, time, and other information and clicking 'Submit,' requests can be made for one-day, three-month, or temporary e-gate passes. Users can check the status of their requested pass on the dashboard.

Once the relevant ministry approves the pass, a QR code is provided. This QR code must be shown while entering the Singha Durbar gate. A simpler system is now being prepared to replace this process.
