Domestic shoes manufacturers gear up for Dashain

KATHMANDU, Sept 10: Local footwear manufacturers are introducing new models targeting Dashain festival when demand goes up significantly.



Leading manufactures like Base Footwear, Shikhar, Run and Takura have already announced that they are soon introducing their latest models targeting the festive season. Sunrise Footwear - the manufacturer of Takura brand of footwear - Sunday announced that it will be introducing 15 new models for Dashain. [break]



Nawaraj Gautam, managing director of the company, said customers will get new designs of party shoes and sports shoes ahead of the Dashain festival. These models are priced between Rs 1,200 and Rs 3,500.



Similarly, Run Shoes is also planning new introduce 50 variety of shoes especially for Dashain. “We will soon introduce 20 new models of party shoes and 30 models of casual and sports shoes,” Rudra Neupane, managing director or Run Shoes, said. “Besides, we will also come up with special discount offer for our customers.”



Run Shoes are available in the price range of Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,900.



Shikhar Shoe is also not behind when it comes to introducing new models for Dashain. Ram Krishna Prasai, managing director of Shikhar Shoe, said the company would launch around 60 new models for men and 100 models for women before Dashain. “We are launching new designs of causal, party and sports shoes for both men and women,” added Prasai.



He also said the company will continue its ´Shikhar Shoes Ko Jhatka, Bumper Ma Alto Car Pakka´ campaign until Dashain. Under the campaign, customers get up to 50 percent discount through scratch card and cash prize up to Rs 100,000 and Alto car as bumper prize.



Base Footwear - the manufacturer of BF Dear Hill shoes - is also planning to announce something special for customers for this Dashain. “We will unveil our plans next week only,” said Hom Nath Upadhyay, managing director of Base Footwear.



The demand for locally made footwear is increasing at a healthy rate, according to people involved in the trade. Upadhyay, who is also the chairman of Nepal Leather Goods and Footwear Manufacturers Association, said around 60 percent of leather shoes sold in the market today are manufactured locally.



He added that the demand for local footwear is increasing by 10 to 15 percent every year.
