Dine and dash

The Workshop Eatery was opened in 2015 by food enthusiasts who have worked in the food industry in both United Kingdom and Australia. They wanted to start a burger trend and then, looking at the American expats in the city, introduced tex-mex food instead which is an American take on Mexican food. Located at Kupondol, opposite Tranquility spa, the lunch hour rush here is something you should avoid if you can. Choose any other time of the day to relax and have a hearty meal.

Work shop BBQ Burger

The hamburger is topped with the workshop’s signature BBQ sauce and has crisp fried shallots complete with cheddar cheese. The barbeque sauce isn’t very overpowering but adds a depth of flavor to the burger with a hint of sweetness. The fried shallots are very crunchy and add texture to every mouthful. Although the portion of the patty is very generous, it’s only drawback is that it’s too small and you may need two if you are very hungry.

Spicy Chicken Sandwich

The reason this dish is called sandwich and not burger is because they have a fresh, marinated piece of chicken as the patty instead of minced meat. As you bite into the sandwich, you get a crunch from the crispy fried shallots. All the ingredients are very fresh and you can tell, if not by looking at it, then by biting into it, there aren’t many places that serve food this fresh. The sandwich has a pickle relish to give it a hint of sour taste and the marinated chicken is slightly spicy as well. It is one of the most enjoyable sandwich-burger hybrids you will get in town.

The ambiance and the service

Although it reminds you of a small diner, the eatery isn’t a place you go to hang out with your friends for an extended amount of time. The small space, and the number of people that come in will make you want to eat and leave, and you may even find yourself sharing a table with strangers. The staff members are very friendly and won’t hesitate to break down what is in your meal so that you know exactly what you are eating. A wall decal in the eatery reads “Our chicken has been marinating since last night’s 10 o’clock news” and although you are skeptical about it at first, when the food comes in you know it wasn’t an exaggeration. Waves of people come and go, especially during the lunch hour, some dine in while others ask for a take away. The service is fast and the wait time isn’t more than 10 minutes, but this depends on the number of orders before you.

Drinks

It’s a safer bet to stick with aerated beverages while you are here. However, if you do order the lemonade, don’t hesitate to ask for extra lemon like this scribe did. The drink is so sweet that only after squeezing half of another lemon, will you be able to take a proper sip. There is however a way around it: Ask for the sugar syrup on the side and add it to the drink, according to your preference.

Monster Fried

There is nothing in this dish that you will not love. Bacon, cheese, and fries are some things most of us are pretty crazy about and these don’t disappoint. The crunchy bacon along with perfectly fried potatoes, which become slightly soggy due to the cheese, leaves you with a smile on your face and an urge to go back and scoop up even the last bit of the cheese.

Burrito Bowl

If you are out and about and looking for a healthy lunch, you could stop by the eatery and make yourself a burrito bowl. It’s ‘make’ and not ‘get’ a bowl because you can personalize it and decided exactly what you want in your bowl. The basics of it is that it lays on a bed of rice and is topped with kidney beans, corn, salsa to give you a kick of the onion, tomato as well as a little bit of garlic. You can top it off with cheese, capsicum, lettuce, and fresh cream. The toppings are all optional and there are much more you can choose from as well. For those who like their food spicy, the sweetness of the corn works really well to cut the heat from the spicy salsa.

Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap

The chicken used in the wrap is very crunchy and it’s easy to tell that the bacon they have used hasn’t been processed. The flavors you get from the very first bite make you forget about all the other wraps you have had in the city. It’s juicy, a little spicy, and the portion is just enough to fill you up. The ranch dressing is what makes all the difference in this dish, the herbs and spices used in it really elevates the taste.

Choco sundae waffle

The freshly cooked waffle fills the air with a delicious smell and makes your mouth water even before it reaches your table. There is a generous serving of both ice-cream and chocolate syrup and the chocolate syrup over the ice-cream is frozen, creating a very satisfying crunch while digging in. The waffle itself is slightly salty and doesn’t let sweetness overpower your taste buds, making it a delightful dessert.
