KATHMANDU, Oct 26: An all-party delegation from Dhankuta district on Thursday met with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar and handed over a memorandum demanding that Dhankuta be declared as the capital of Province 1.
“An all-party delegation from Dhankuta held an interaction with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar today. During the interaction, the delegation handed over a memorandum demanding that Dhankuta be declared as the capital city of Province 1 with the Province Chief without delay saying that it has all the required infrastructures,” Nepali Congress Dhankuta District Secretary Bijaya Santoshi Rai told Republica Online.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Deuba said the current government is positive toward declaring the district as the capital city of Province1 saying that it has all the necessary infrastructures and it was also the headquarters of the then Eastern Development Region.

The delegation included former lawmakers Sunil Bahadur Thapa, Udaya Nepali Shrestha, NC Dhankuta Districtrict Secretary Bijaya Santoshi Rai, UML Dhankuta Secretary Niran Rai, CPN (Maoist Center) secretariat member Sundar Babu Shrestha, coordinator Umesh Ghimire among others.
