One dead, 14 injured in Dhankuta bus accident

According to the District Police Office, Dhankuta, the bus (1 Kha 2177) traveling from Dharan to Dhankuta met with an accident at Gothgaun in Dhankuta. Among the injured, one person has died and three others are in critical condition.

KATHMANDU, May 5: A person has died and 14 others were injured in a bus accident that occured in Dhankuta on Monday morning.


According to the District Police Office, Dhankuta, the bus (1 Kha 2177) traveling from Dharan to Dhankuta met with an accident at Gothgaun in Dhankuta. Among the injured, one person has died and three others are in critical condition.

The injured were rescued and taken to Dhankuta District Hospital for treatment. The accident occurred at around 10:15 AM today when the passenger bus heading toward Bhojpur from Dharan veered off the road and fell down along the Koshi Highway in Gothgaun, Dhankuta Municipality–6.


According to the District Police Office, Dhankuta, Krishna Kumari Rai, 73, of Dhankuta Municipality–6 died during treatment. Other injured individuals include Surya Mani Tamang and Anmol Tamang from Shadanand Municipality–13 in Bhojpur; Krishna Raut from Barahakshetra Municipality–2 in Sunsari; the bus driver Rudra Tamang from Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City–13 in Sunsari and Ganga Prasad Sapkota from Pauwadungma Rural Municipality–3, Bhojpur.


Police also reported that other injured individuals include Sabina Baraili and Devi Tabik from Bhojpur Municipality–11; Hansha Bahadur Rai from Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality–6; Kapurna Maya Tamang from Shadanand Municipality–11 in Bhojpur; Lila Bahadur Shrestha from Bhojpur Municipality–11; Dirgha Maya Rai from Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality–6 in Dhankuta; Ayush Rai from Itahari; and Dhan Kumar Bk from Dhankuta–6.
