Deuba, Dahal agree not to table MCC in parliament today

KATHMANDU, Feb 16: The US-aid project Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact agreement will not be presented in today's House of Representatives meeting.

In a meeting this morning, Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal agreed not to present the MCC grant agreement in parliament today. Chairman Dahal reached Baluwatar to meet Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba directly after attending the parliamentary party meeting of his party held at Singha Durbar today. 

A meeting of the ruling coalition will be held at 3 PM tomorrow to further discuss the MCC project.

The ruling CPN (Maoist Center) has said that it is set to vote against the MCC project. A meeting of the parliamentary party of the CPN (Maoist Center) held at the parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar on Wednesday decided to vote against the government's proposal if the MCC project is tabled without amendment.

Maoist Center Chief Whip Dev Gurung said that the alliance would break automatically if the MCC project was passed by parliament without the consent of the ruling coalition.
