Army runners claimed the top six positions in the men´s event while APF runners secured the top five positions in the women´s event of the 21.1-km half marathon. [break]
Army´s Kalyan Baniya won the men´s half marathon with a timing of 1 hour 9 minutes 20 seconds, five seconds ahead of his team mate Krishna Basnet. Letter Singh Khatri clocked 1 hour 9 minutes 40 seconds to finish third, while Hari Rimal, Raj Kumar Khatri and Homlal Shrestha took fourth to sixth place honors respectively.
In the women´s section, APF runner Kanchhi Maya Koju clocked 1 hour 25 minutes 46 seconds to win the title for a second time. She had won the marathon in 2067 BS.
Binda Shrestha, last edition´s champion, finished the race in 1 hour 28 minutes 22 seconds to finish runner-up. Krishneshwari Sintakala came third clocking 1 hour 31 minutes 6 seconds, while Gita Khatri and Sonu Jaya Rai secured the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
The top three finishers in both the categories bagged cash prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
Meanwhile, Krishnaraj Chaudhary achieved a title hat-trick in the men´s 5-km wheelchair race while Bharat Adhikari and Teju Gharti Magar finished second and third respectively. Sonika Dhakal, Yomi Jhakri Magar and Laxmi Khatri secured the top three positions in the women´s event. Winners of both the categories received Rs 10,000 each.
Similarly, Laxmi Kafle won the corporate-media 5-km race in the men´s section while Hume Budhamagar emerged champion in the in women´s section. The winners bagged Rs 10,000 each.
The event, organized on the occasion of 20th anniversary of Kantipur Publications, was inaugurated by Chief Secretary Leela Mani Paudyal.
