Departmental teams dominate Speaker’s Volleyball Cup

ROLPA, May 13: The first Speaker’s Cup National Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Tournament, the highest prize money tournament outside the valley, has started in Liwang, Rolpa on Saturday. The tournament which is organized by the National Sports Council (NSC) will conclude on May 16. A total of 20 teams each (seven each from seven provinces and three each from three departmental teams) of both men’s and women’s are taking part in the tournament being organized in league cum knockout format.

ROLPA, May 13: The first Speaker’s Cup National Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Tournament, the highest prize money tournament outside the valley, has started in Liwang, Rolpa on Saturday. The tournament which is organized by the National Sports Council (NSC) will conclude on May 16. A total of 20 teams each (seven each from seven provinces and three each from three departmental teams) of both men’s and women’s are taking part in the tournament being organized in league cum knockout format.

The winners of the tournament will take home Rs 300,000 each, while the runner-ups will be rewarded with Rs 200,000 each. The third place teams will be prized with Rs 100,000 each, informed the organizers.  In the men’s category matches played on the same day, Tribhuvan Army Club beat Province 3 25-21, 25-19, 25-17, while Nepal Police Club defeated Province 7 25-18, 27-25, 25-13. Also, Province 1 saw off Province 6 25-19, 25-10, 25-12, while Armed Police Force overcame Province 2 25-13, 25-12, 25-9. 


In women’s category, Armed Police beat Province 4 25-6, 25-22, 25-4, while Nepal Police defeated Province 7 25-7, 25-9, 25-9. Also, in the same category played on the same day, Province 5 saw off Province 1 25-15, 25-23, 25-18, while Province 2 overcame Province 6 25-18, 26-24, 25-22.
