KATHMANDU, June 15: Chairperson of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has accused the communists from Nepal of being petit bourgeois, who run faction-filled parties and has called his fellow communists to help build a strong communist center.

Chairing a program organized to welcome the Unified Central Committee Meeting of Press Chautari Nepal (Press wing of former CPN (Maoist Center)) and Press Committee Nepal (Press wing of former CPN-UML), Dahal said, “Bourgeois or petit bourgeois mentality is anarchist and self-centered. The ideals of communists should actually be collective,” he added, “But, we have not been able to run politics of collective mentality.”

Dahal also called the unification an opportunity for self-centric communist leaders to change themselves. “Many of us have come to realize that when we came to power we were blinded by our personal benefits,” Dahal said, “We should utilize this unification as an opportunity to transform ourselves into leaders who can rise above personal interests to contribute to the development of the nation.”

He urged members of the Press wing of NCP to act as an effective medium to explain the ideologies of the party to the general public. “We should all realize that our responsibilities have increased after the unification. If we coordinate properly, we can set an example of communism for the world,” he said. He also emphasized that it is the responsibility of journalists to explain everything to the public in this time of confusion.

Also attending the program, General Secretary of NCP, Bishnu Poudel expressed his hopes that the unification of the two sister wings of former CPN-Maoist Center and former CPN (UML) will be a significant step in the party unification process.

The unification of the two press unions is being coordinated by a four-member team consisting of NCP leaders Pampha Bhusal and Yogesh Bhattrai, and chairpersons of the two unions.
