KATHMANDU, Jan 12: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has accused Bishnu Kumar Shrestha, a former engineer of the Department of Water Resources and Irrigation, of illegally amassing around Rs 50 million and filed a corruption case against him.
The CIAA claims that Shrestha entered government service in 2046 BS and amassed illegal wealth until Ashar (mid-July) 2077 BS. According to the CIAA, he earned Rs 112.5 million during this period but possessed assets worth Rs 161.3 million.
Corruption case filed against seven people
The CIAA has demanded that Shrestha repay Rs 48.8 million.
The CIAA has also accused him of keeping illegally acquired assets under the names of his wife Laxmi Kumari, father Hari Kumar Shrestha, mother Indra Kumari Shrestha, and son Bibek, and listed them as defendants in the corruption case.
The CIAA has stated that it filed complaints against Shrestha, alleging that he collaborated with contractors to take commissions for an extended period under the guise of constructing structures for irrigation and flood control.
