A cabinet meeting two weeks ago had nominated five candidates for the position of CIAA commissioners, who will be installed only after holding parliamentary hearings.
The government has nominated former secretaries Nabin Ghimire, Deep Kumar Basnet, Ganeshraj Joshi, former Deputy Attorney General Rajnarayan Pathak and Savitri Gurung as commissioners at the anti-graft body.
According to officials at the parliament secretariat, three complaints have been registered against Basnet. A complainant wrote to the committee that Basnet had submitted fake academic certificate to get promotion as joint secretary. “The complaint stated that Basnet got fake academic certificate from a university in Bihar state of India and eventually got promoted to the post of joint secretary,” said an official.
Five complaints lodged against proposed SC justices
The complainant has accused Basnet of receiving millions of rupees as kickbacks from manpower agencies when he was joint secretary at the labor department and from businesspersons when he was at the finance ministry.
Similarly, a complainant has accused Pathak of weakening government cases by receiving bribes and causing huge loss to the state.
Likewise, another complainant has accused Joshi of filing a corruption case against an innocent person when he was secretary at the CIAA.
No complaint has been registered against former secretary Ghimire and Gurung.
The House committee is likely to conduct hearings next week and endorse the nominations.
