Civil servants push for pay hike

KATHMANDU, April 29: Nepal Civil Servant Organization (NCSO) has demanded that the government raise their basic salary and allowance in line with the inflation rate.



Speaking at a program in the capital on Friday, they requested the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to raise their salary and allowance through the upcoming budget for fiscal year 2011/12. They also said productivity of civil servants was on the wane because of the absence of timely revision of salary and allowance. [break]



“Our salary is among the lowest in the world,” said Rajan Regmi, acting chairman of NCSO, adding, “The government hasn´t revised salary and allowance for the past two or three years despite rising inflation.”



Mohan Kumar Ghimire, general secretary of NCSO, urged the government to revise salary and allowance through the upcoming budget.



He asked the government to begin basic salary and allowance of government employees from Rs 15,374.



The employees have also demanded the government to provide uniform, residential, transportation, children education and other allowances.



Speaking at the program, Revenue Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota assured the civil servants that he would take the issue for discussion at the Ministry of Finance before the budget announcement.



Ramesh Dahal, acting director of Nepal Rastra Bank, said the government should salary of employees to ensure better service delivery.
