CIAA files corruption case against Mayor and nine other officials in Mugu

KATHMANDU, June 7: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case in the special court against nine personnel including the then Mayor Hari Jung Shahi, Deputy Mayor Suntala Rokaya, Chief Administrative Officer, engineer, Chairman of Consumer Committee of Chhayanath Rara Municipality in Mugu. The anti-graft body registered a case against the four on Tuesday demanding Rs 22,36,000 as compensation.

CIAA has claimed that the officials were engaged in corruption by allocating the funds saying that the road, which is yet to be constructed in Chhayanath Rara Municipality-7, has been completed.

It is mentioned in the fake charge sheet of the authority that the accused obtained illegal benefits of Rs 22,36,000 during the construction of the road from Bisauni to Kiuri, with fake measurement book, consumer’s bill and fake report of completion of construction even if the work is not actually done.

Then Chief Administrative Officer Pitambar Saru of Chhayanath Rara Municipality, Mugu , Engineer Mahesh Singh Kathayat and Assistant Sub-Engineer Hasta Bahadur Malla jointly demanded Rs 2.2 million compensation, similarly mayor Hari Jung Shahi, the then deputy mayor Suntala Rokaya and Ward No 7 member Pashupati Shahi jointly demanded Rs 2.2 million compensation, a case has been filed against the President Rampyari Shahi, Treasurer Nani Kami and Secretary Sadana Malla of the Road Construction Consumer Committee from Bisauni to Kiuri for demand of Rs 2.2 million as compensation.

Similarly, the anti-graft body has registered another corruption case against four persons including the then district coordination head of Sunsari District Coordination Committee Gopalraj Bhandari and RK Construction for causing damage to public property including Rs 8,25,000.

Gopalraj Bhandari, District Coordination Officer Pushkar Bhattarai, Ramprasad Shrestha of RK Construction, Construction representative Krishna Bahadur Katuwal have been demanded to confiscate Rs 80, 82,000. The authority claims that when contracting to collect the district export tax of agricultural and herbal herbs, they collected the tax illegally without taking the surety that should be taken according to the law and without even making an agreement.
