CHITWAN, July 30 : Chitwan National Park is facing financial challenges in feeding seven Royal Bengal tigers currently kept in enclosures after being rescued due to illness or aggressive behavior.
According to the park’s spokesperson Avinash Thapamagar, the annual cost to feed these tigers exceeds Rs 3 million, while the government allocates only around Rs 500,000. Each tiger requires 5 to 7 kilograms of buffalo meat daily, pushing monthly feeding expenses beyond Rs 200,000.
Number of Bengal tigers in Bardiya National Park reaches 125
Last year, the park was left with unpaid meat bills totaling Rs 2.2 million. With no space to house additional tigers, one was transferred to Parsa National Park. Officials say the rising tiger population—128 adults as per the latest count—and declining budget are intensifying the problem.
