KATHMANDU, July 29: The number of Bengal tigers in the Bardiya National Park has reached 125. The national park is considered the second largest habitat for Royal Bengal tigers. It is reported that the Chitwan National Park has 128 Bengal tigers. 

The Bardiya National Park successfully collaborated with the community for biodiversity conservation. Since then, the number of Royal Bengal tigers which was just 18 in 2010 has risen significantly, according to the Park Conservation Officer Purushottam Wagle. He also mentioned that there have been fewer tiger attacks in the Bardiya National Park and its premises over the last two years. 

The slogan "Now is the time to take steps for tiger conservation" is the highlight of the World Tiger Day celebrations taking place on Monday. Conservation Officer Wagle mentioned that efforts to conserve the habitat of all animals in the national park are underway, particularly with the increase in the number of Royal Bengal tigers. Authorities are concentrating on habitat management, community awareness, and preventing human-wildlife conflicts through the use of infrastructures such as concrete walls and electric fences.

Following the conservation of forests, the number of tigers in Bardiya has significantly increased, and the frequency of the movement of tigers along biological corridors and within the forest area has also grown. It has also been reported that last year, five people died as a result of attacks by tigers and leopards in the forest area.
