KATHMANDU, July 27: Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has sharply criticized the incumbent government, accusing the KP Sharma Oli-led administration of conspiring to halt many significant initiatives he had introduced during his tenure as the prime minister.

Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Saturday, Dahal clarified his party's stance on the ongoing teachers’ movement, the School Education Bill 2080 BS, and the current political scenario. He said, “The constitution had ensured that teachers wouldn’t need to take to the streets. But since that provision was not implemented, they were compelled to protest. If the Maoist Center had been in government, teachers wouldn’t have been humiliated.”

Expressing dissatisfaction over the lack of seriousness in implementing the agreements made with teachers during his recent tenure as prime minister, Dahal said, “The government showed no readiness, which forced you (teachers) to remain on the streets and continue the agitation. The government leadership treated you with disrespect.”

Speaking about the School Education Bill, he criticized the recent amendments made in Parliament, saying, “When we were in government, we moved the bill forward incorporating teachers' demands. But now, a conspiracy has been hatched against it.”

Referring to the Federal Civil Service Act 2080 BS, Dahal made a sarcastic remark aimed at the main opposition party: “The UML finally showed its dubious stance in the cooling-off period provision.” He said that the Maoist Center’s suspicions had been confirmed by the amendment proposal tabled in the National Assembly by UML lawmakers.

Commenting on the broader political crisis, Dahal said both the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML are suffering from a lack of ideological leadership. “There is an ideological vacuum within the UML, and confusion over the successor to People’s Multiparty Democracy,” he said. He also criticized UML Chair KP Sharma Oli’s controversial remarks about the late leader Madan Bhandari, calling them a sign of misguided ideology.

Dahal concluded by saying that the Maoist Center is still actively working to reconnect with the people.
