KATHMANDU, Aug 23: A passenger bus traveling on the Mugling-Narayanghat road section in Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality, Chitwan, met with an accident after being hit by rolling boulders.
The boulders fell on the bus (Ga 2 Kha 47), which was traveling from Gaur in Rautahat to Pokhara, around 1:50 PM today. The impact caused the bus driver to lose control, resulting in the bus overturning, according to Mugling Police Chief, Inspector Nirla Bhandari.
When will it end?
Chitwan police reported that 25 passengers were injured in the accident. Of those, nine are receiving treatment at Bharatpur Hospital, eight each at Old Medical College and Chitwan Medical College. Two of the injured are in serious condition. It is estimated that there were 35 passengers on the bus at the time of the accident. The bus sustained significant damage from the strikes of the roling boulders.
The bus remains overturned at the scene but traffic on the road has resumed.
This is not the first such incident in the area. On July 12, a driver was killed when a large boulder fell on a bus on the same road section. On the same day, a landslide in Simaltal resulted in the deaths of 62 passengers when two buses were swept away.
