KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The Karnali Province chapter of Bibeksheel Sajha Party (BSP) in coordination with its central office has collected about Rs 120,000 through a donation campaign for the victims of a fire which broke out in Khada village of Palata Rural Municipality in Kalikot district on Sunday night.
One of the biggest fire accidents to take place this year, the accident gutted 87 houses and injured seven people.
Insiders from BSP central office told Republica that the party is expecting that about Rs 300,000 will be raised through the donation campaign.
Relief pour in for Kalikot fire victims
“We have raised about Rs 120,000 through the campaign as of now,” BSP leader Shashi Bikram Karki said, “We are hoping to raise about Rs 300,000 for the fire victims.”
Apart from cash, BSP has also been collecting clothes and other materials necessary for the fire victims.
Kalikot fire victims have been left to shiver with no clothes or housing to keep themselves warm in the winter.
BSP central office has been sending the funds and clothes to its Surkhet office for the distribution of the relief material.
Karki informed Republica that the fund sent to BSP’s provincial chapter is being utilized to buy clothes for the victims.
BSP has said that the party is currently facing a problem in transporting the relief materials.
“Khada village is a day’s walk from the district headquarters, which creates a lot of problem in transporting the relief materials,” Karki told Republica.
The fire victims have been complaining that even though they have been receiving the relief materials, they have not been able to meet the donors. Since the relief distribution has not been a face-to-face interaction between the donors and the victims, the victims feel that they have not been able to connect well with the donors.
