KATHMANDU, Sept 15: The death toll from the Bhotekoshi floods has reached 1,395, while 5,130 people remain unaccounted for, according to the latest data released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
According to NDRRMA’s report released Monday, 364 bodies have been recovered in Chitwan, 232 in Nawalparasi East, 222 in Nawalparasi West, 202 in Nuwakot, 186 in Rasuwa, 77 in Gorkha, 72 in Dhading and 38 in Tanahun. Meanwhile, two people also died while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.
Of the recovered bodies, 104 have been identified so far. The process of identifying the remaining bodies, including through DNA testing, is underway, according to NDRRMA.

NDRRMA Spokesperson Shanti Mahat said 13,737 people have been rescued so far following the floods. Among those staying at 33 holding centers, 1,499 are in Nuwakot, 825 in Rasuwa and 94 in Dhading.
Meanwhile, 341 people were treated at 19 hospitals, of whom 278 have been discharged, according to NDRRMA. An additional 9,358 people have received health services through various security agencies.
The Ministry of Health and Food Safety has deployed 150 counselors to the affected areas. Nepal Police has provided counseling to 45,238 people through 166 community awareness programs, Mahat said.
Various state agencies have continued relief and management efforts to provide shelter and meet the basic needs of people displaced and affected by the floods. Security agencies, local governments, and various government and non-government organizations are involved in the search for missing people, rescue and treatment of the injured, and relief operations.
With the Bhotekoshi floods causing significant loss of life and property, NDRRMA said the search for missing people has been prioritized. Search and rescue operations have been intensified.
