KATHMANDU, April 26: Both boys’ and girls’ teams of Nepal have advanced into the semifinals of the ongoing South Asian Regional Qualifiers Tournament for the ITF Asia U-12 Team Tennis Championship on Wednesday.
Both Nepali teams reached the last four in the tournament played in round robin league format.
Nepal will take on Pakistan, while India will face Sri Lanka in the boys’ semifinals and Nepal will vie against Sri Lanka, while India will play against Bhutan in girls’ semifinals. The winner of the semifinals will play in the ITF Asia U-12 Team Tennis Championship to be held in Kazakhstan in November.
In boys’ category matches, Nepal defeated Pakistan 2-1. In boys’ singles, Nepal’s Aki Zuben Rawat beat Pakistan’s Bilal Asim 6-2, 6-2, while Pakistan’s Hamid Israr saw off Nepal’s Aarav Samrat Hada 6-3, 6-3 to equalize the game at the Satdobato Tennis Court.
Both Nepali teams reach semis in lawn tennis
In the decider game in boys’ doubles, the Nepali pair comprising of Rawat and Hada defeated Pakistan’s Asim and Mohammed Hujaifa Khan 6-0, 6-1.
Nepal comfortably beat Bhutan in girls’ category.
In girls’ singles, Nepal’s Aza Regmi overcame Bhutan’s Yuden Karma Dorji 6-1, 6-3, while Nepal’s Subhanghi Laxmi Shah thrashed Bhutan’s Wangsel Tenzin Lyaden 6-1, 6-0.
Also, in girls’ doubles, the Nepali pair of Shah and Aisha Dolker Gurung comfortably defeated Yuden and Kuinga Palmo 6-1, 6-0.
