Bomb threat in Vistara Air, passengers evacuated

KATHMANDU, Oct 22: The Tribhuvan International Airport remained tense on Tuesday evening following a bomb threat on an Indian aircraft which arrived from New Delhi to Kathmandu at 4:27 pm.


The Nepalese Army searched the passenger aircraft (UK 155) operated by Indian airline company Vistara Airlines after rumors spread that a bomb was placed in its fuselage.


After being tipped off by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), a bomb disposal team of the army started its search operation.

According to Army spokesperson Brigadier General Gaurav Kumar KC, the Nepalese Army’s special explosives disposal team from the Airport Standby Unit is conducting a search after the rumor that a bomb was placed on the plane of Vistara Air. 


“As of 6 pm, all the passengers have been evacuated safely from the aircraft and the team of army personnel are checking the baggage for the bomb,” General KC told Republica.


As per the officials from the CAAN, they started searching the plane with the help of the army squad on the basis of an information received from Delhi that a bomb was placed on the aircraft. 


Gyanendra Bhul, information officer of CAAN, informed Republica the aircraft of Vistara is being searched but no suspicious object has been found so far.


“Even the hand baggage of the passengers of the plane has been checked, the luggage and cargo will be checked next,” he said, “Outbound flights and landings at the TIA have not been stopped for now.”
