KATHMANDU, June 25: A controversial birthday celebration held at the official residence of DSP Jitendra Kumar Basnet in Saptari has prompted a formal investigation by the Nepal Police Headquarters.
Following instructions from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deepak Thapa, the Madhesh Province Police Office has formed a probe committee to determine the facts surrounding the incident.
The committee, led by SP Narayan Ranjitkar, has been tasked with investigating the purpose of the event, identifying attendees, and determining whether any behavior violated police conduct.

The incident was also raised in the parliamentary State Affairs and Good Governance Committee. Chairperson Ramhari Khatiwada sought clarification from IGP Thapa, who responded that he had directed the DIG of Madhesh Province to initiate a probe.
"A birthday celebration of an inspector was held at the DSP’s quarters, and a photo from the event has now come to light," IGP Thapa stated, "Though the incident occurred some time ago, we have taken note of it and begun an investigation."
The controversy emerged after Akash Adarsh of Rajbiraj Municipality-6, who had recently been acquitted in a rape case, was seen celebrating with Investigation Officer Inspector Manish Shrestha at the party held at DSP Basnet’s residence.
Although the incident occurred over a month ago, the issue only became public recently, prompting the launch of an internal inquiry.
