Biratnagar, Nepalgunj eves register wins in T20

KATHMANDU, April 4: Rashmi Sharma’s allround performance helped Region No 1 Biratnagar defeat Region No 3 Kathmandu in the women’s T20 cricket event of the Fifth National Games played at the Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya Grounds on Saturday. Electing to bat first, Biratnagar made 119/2 in its allotted 20 overs and successfully defended the score to restrict Kathmandu to 105/6 in 20 overs. [break]



Player of the match Rashmi Sharma (55*) shared a 91 runs partnership with Jyoti Pandey (30) to guide Biratnagar to a competitive score. Sharma’s innings included 7 hits to the fence. Sandhya Giri and Geeta Chudal bagged one wicket each. Kathmandu conceded 28 runs in extras.



Biratnagar gave away 31 runs as extras but even this could not help Kathmandu’s cause. Opener Geeta Chudal (23) top scored for Kathmandu while no other batter except No 3 Neera Rajopadhyaya (12) could reach double figures.



Rashmi Sharma and Dikshya Khanal were the pick of the bowlers for Biratnagar as they claimed two wickets a piece.



Meanwhile, the other matchup at the same venue saw Region No 5 Nepalgunj, fielding only 10 players, beat Region No. 2 Birgunj by 9 wickets as Nepalgunj skipper Nary Thapa claimed 4 wickets.



Birgunj scored 105/8 in its allotted overs while Nepalgunj completed the run chase in 17.3 overs.



No 5 Sobha Aale (34) and No 6 Leena Gurung (16) were the only ones to reach double figures for Birgunj.



Nepalgunj opener Manisha Rawal( 26) topscored for her team. While No.3 Mamta Thapa contributed 14 runs. 59 of the Nepalgunj runs came from extras.



Region No 1 Biratnagar is leading the points table with 6 points while Region No 3 Kathmandu are runner ups with 3 points.
