Big guns of Nepali chess trail behind

KATHMANDU, Aug 30: Big guns of Nepali chess trailed behind most of the unheralded players during the Indrachowk Club Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament on Tuesday.



Sujendra Prasad Shrestha, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Rajan Puri and Rijendra Raj Bhandari took top four spots respectively, with all four players having three points from three rounds. Sujendra leads the pack on the basis of superior rating record. [break]



Meanwhile, Nepal champion Badri Lal Nepali and FIDE Master Manish Hamal, former national champion Navin Tandukar, Bikash Kuluju, Madan Kayastha, Shyam Shrestha and Prem Krishna Maharjan trail behind the leaders with 2.5 points each.



Sujendra Shrestha defeated Chandra Prakash Lama in the second round and Laba Kumar Shrestha in the third round. Rajendra Shrestha beat Mohan Kumar Regmi and Dirgha Raj Joshi in the second and third round.



Meanwhile, Puri continued his winning streak till the third round with victory over Mohan Singh Pradhan and Krishna Thapa. Bhandari beat Mohan BK and Sandip Bajracharya in the second and third round respectively.



With two points from three games, Former Nepal champion Surbir Lama, Laba Kumar Shrestha, Dirgha Raj Joshi, Sudip Bajracharya, Purna Raj Khadka Bibek Jaiswal, Gyanendra Prashad Shrestha, Madhav Prashad Pradhan, Shaurav Prashad Pradhan and Suraj Pandit are further below the points table.
