Bhaktapur Municipality becomes the first municipality in Nepal to introduce local curriculum in school level. With the start of a new academic session, both private and government schools have included local syllabus as a part of the academic curriculum.  At present, the curriculum focuses on five subjects -- culture, art, and heritage, history of local skills and technology, local tourism, and local sports of Bhaktapur.

Rajendra Shrestha, the secretary of local curriculum development committee, informed that both private and government schools had already started implementing the new curriculum. The Bhaktapur Municipality brought the local curriculum into practice by exercising its rights provided by the Nepal Constitution and local government operation act 2017. The curriculum is currently being tested in grades on six in Bhaktapur with each subject from the newly introduced syllabus holding 100 marks.

The municipality set a five-member local curriculum development committee under the coordination with Yogendra Bijukchhen. The committee held meetings with stakeholders at different levels to prepare the curriculum.
